Email and text consent
You can ask about a mortgage without signing up for marketing. This page explains the separate choice for promotional email and text messages and how to withdraw it.

Which messages this covers
Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) generally requires consent before a business sends commercial electronic messages such as promotional email or text. A response to a mortgage question you submitted and optional marketing updates serve different purposes. We keep the marketing choice separate from the request to contact you about your enquiry.
Your choice on our forms
Our marketing checkbox starts unchecked. You can submit a mortgage enquiry without selecting it. If you choose marketing updates, the wording beside the checkbox tells you the channels and types of messages covered. A request for a callback or a response about your own file is not treated as permission for unrelated promotional campaigns.
Rate alerts have their own checkbox, which also starts unchecked. It covers only emails about the rate you picked. We send a confirmation link first, and no alert goes out until you click it. Every alert email has a one-click unsubscribe link that stops your alerts right away.
Express consent is an affirmative choice and continues until withdrawn. CASL recognizes implied consent in limited circumstances, such as a qualifying recent business relationship; a mere contact detail is not blanket permission to send marketing. See the CRTC’s consent guidance for the legal categories and time limits.
Consent records
When you make a choice on a form, we record the choice and the wording shown with the submission so that it can be checked later. CASL puts the burden of proving consent on the sender. You may ask us what marketing consent we have recorded for you at privacy@ratelens.ca. For how we handle and retain personal information more generally, read our Privacy Policy.

How to stop messages
You may withdraw marketing consent at any time. Use the unsubscribe link in a marketing email if you receive one, reply STOP to a marketing text if you receive one, or email privacy@ratelens.ca with the email address or phone number you want removed. There is no self-service preference centre on this site yet; contact us directly to change your choice. CASL requires senders to honour an unsubscribe request within 10 business days and at no cost.
Stopping promotional messages doesn’t stop us from responding to a new enquiry you send. If a message or unsubscribe link doesn’t work as expected, contact us at the address above.
